Xbox
Xbox (stylized
as XBOX) is a video gaming brandcreated
and owned by Microsoft. It represents a series of video
game consoles developed by
Microsoft, with three consoles released in the sixth, seventh, andeighth generations
respectively. The brand also represents applications (games), streaming services,
and an online service by the name of Xbox Live. The brand was first
introduced on November 15, 2001 in the United States, with the
launch of the original Xbox
console.
That original
device was the first video game console offered by an American company after
the Atari Jaguar stopped
sales in 1996. It reached over 24 million units sold as of May 10, 2006.[1] Microsoft's
second console, the Xbox 360, was released in 2005 and has sold over 77.2 million
consoles worldwide as of April 18, 2013.[2] The
successor to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft's most recent console, the Xbox One,[3] was revealed on May 21, 2013.[4]The Xbox One has been released in 21 markets in total,
with a Chinese release on 29 September 2014. The head of Xbox is Phil Spencer, who
succeeded former head Marc Whitten in late March 2014.

The
Xbox 360 is a powerful seventh generation videogame system from Microsoft that
was released on November 22nd, 2005. Currently, the Xbox 360 comes in several
different configurations
The
Xbox 360 can play both Xbox 360 games as well as DVD movies right out of the
box. The system can also play certain titles that were released on the original
Xbox.
The
benefit of Xbox:
the Xbox 360
(Microsoft, Redmond, WA) (up to July 2012), focusing on possible uses by
different age groups, from kids to older people, for improving players'
physical, mental/cognitive, and psychological/emotional health and fitness. A
quick survey of existing related research is also provided, and links are made
to it. There are already many published studies about digital exergames in
general, but very little about Kinect exergames. More research is needed to
establish the evidence base concerning the latter (e.g., in relation to obesity
management [pediatric and adult] or cognitive state improvement in older
people, etc.): What works in each condition, what does not, and under which settings
and criteria.
All
the Different Types of Xboxes
Over the years, Microsoft has released various versions
of the Xbox. The very first was the original Xbox, which only came in one
flavor. The revamped version, the Xbox 360, came in various configurations,
including the Xbox 360 Core, Xbox 360 Pro, and Xbox 360 Elite. These versions
were later discontinued and the entire line was simplified into main Xbox 360
S.
The Original Xbox
The very first Xbox was
released on November 15, 2001 in North America, with subsequent releases in
Japan and Australia/Europe in February and March of 2002, respectively. This
was Microsoft’s first ever attempt into creating a dedicated gaming machine,
and was the first console to feature a built-in 8-gigabyte (GB) hard drive.
This was quite revolutionary, because previously, most game consoles had to use
built-in flash memory, memory cards, or add-on drives (at least in the case of
the PlayStation 2). When it was launched, the Xbox was the most powerful
console on the market, compared to its direct competitors, Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s GameCube. It featured a 733 Megahertz Intel Pentium III
processor, 250 Megahertz 3D graphics processor, DVD Drive, HDTV Support, and
other features that made it superior to the other consoles.
The Xbox ran on a
Windows-based platform. It had a media player that could play music, play
movies, or even store media onto the hard drive. When it came out, popular
titles like Dead or Alive 3, Halo: Combat Evolved, and Fuzion Frenzy were among the first games that were
launched with the console. The original Xbox was considered a huge success in
North America, and sold over 24 million units from the day it was launched
until it was discontinued in 2006.
Xbox 360
Following the success of
the Xbox, Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 in November 2005. It was first
announced on MTV and it was sold out on launch date in North America. In fact,
demand for the console was so high, many people had to wait up to two months
before they could purchase a unit. It subsequently launched in 36 countries,
the most for any gaming console in a single year.
Rather than being an upgrade from the Xbox, the Xbox 360
was a completely new gaming console, rebuilt from scratch. Aside from having a
new physical look, the inside of the system was radically different (and even
more powerful) than its predecessor. It features a 3.2 Gigahertz triple-core
CPU, 10 MB DRAM graphics processor, 512 Megahertz or RAM, 12x speed dual layer
DVD-ROM, and an upgradeable and removable hard drive. It had the capability to
play and rip music and movies, like the previous version, but it could also
network, stream, and download various types of media (including full HD movies)
as well as game content. Microsoft initially launched various iterations of the
Xbox 360.
Xbox One
Xbox One is a home
video game console developed
and marketed by Microsoft. Announced on May 21, 2013, it is the successor to the Xbox 360 and
is the third console in the Xbox family.[7] It
directly competes with Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo'sWii
U as part of the eighth
generation of video game consoles.[17][18] Xbox
One was released across North America, several European markets, Australia, and
New Zealand on November 22, 2013,[2] and
later in 26 other markets, including Japan, the remaining European markets, and
the Middle East, in September 2014.[19] It is
also the first Xbox game console to be released in China, specifically in theShanghai Free-Trade Zone.[6] Microsoft
and various publications have classified the device as an "all-in-one
entertainment system",[20][21][22] making
it a competitor to other digital
media players such as theApple TV and
the Google TV platforms.[23][24][25]
Moving away
from the Xbox 360's PowerPC-based architecture and back into the x86 architecture
used in the first Xbox, the console features an AMDprocessor
built around the x86-64 instruction
set. Xbox One places an increased emphasis on entertainment integration,
offering the ability tooverlay live
television programming from an existingset-top box, split-screen multitasking
of applications, and improved second screen support.
The console optionally includes a newly upgraded Kinect motion sensing peripheral,
previously an optional attachment for the Xbox 360. Microsoft is emphasizing
the Kinect's integration with Xbox One through features such as a built-in Skype client
for videoconferencing, user recognition and tracking, and the ability to usevoice
commands and gestures to navigate the console's user interface. New gaming
functionality includes an expanded Xbox Live service,
improved Kinect functionality, cloud computing, the ability to automatically record and share video
highlights from gameplay, and support for live streaming gameplay
online.
